Captain John S. Beach Marina is located on the site of the previously planned town of Colchester.  The name Colchester was most likely named after the town of Colchester in Essex, England which predates Roman Britain.  John Stonewall Beach purchased the property in 1883 at the age of 24 years.  The property has since been passed down to the heirs of John Beach.  Mary Beach developed the land in to a full service marina in the 1970's.
